The natural sheen of Tusser silk, created here using the traditional pre-loom thigh reeling technique, is complimented by a border of Indian magenta and midnight blue motifs woven using the Phera and Jhala technique. Inspired by traditional homes in Chhattisgarh, the saree’s body is reminiscent of their mud plastered facades, while the border is a playful geometric rendition of the repetitive patterns of wooden pillars and beams.

Technique
Phera is a three-shuttle weaving technique that interlocks the weft of the body of the fabric with the weft of the borders on both sides. This technique is used to create simple straight borders as well as intricate temple borders on saris. Due to its complexity, it requires two weavers to work together in sync. The term "Phera," which means "turn around," refers to the shuttle turning at the point where the two wefts intersect.
Disclaimer

This saree has been handwoven by Kosa artisans and might carry slight irregularities in design and texture. These small variations are not defects, but instead the hallmark of handcrafted goods which makes each piece unique.
